Fantastic treasure from my oldest trunk! This uniform belonged to Rear Admiral Felix X (Xerxes) Gygax, Graduated the US Naval academy at Annapolis Sept 12. 1912, designated expert diesel design 1920, devloped and purchased new engines for our subs from Switzerland. Promoted Admiral 1933. Commanded the Norfolk Navy yard 1941-1944. Retired to his favorite duty station: San Diego. ONE-OF-A-KIND!!
Passed away in 1977--his widow donated his travel crate of uniforms to the Old Globe Theater (in San Diego), who gave them to me. This uniform jacket has his name inside dated \"7/19/1940--F. Gygax\"--Naval Uniform Shop Naval Clothing Depot Brooklyn New York. The Old Globe removed the stars, which are easy to replace. All buttons excellent. Rear Admiral braid is worn ( they used real metal thread in those days!)
WW2-style ribbons LARGE FORMAT hand-sewn on: Legion of Merit; WW1 Victory; National Defense; Pacific Theater (WW2) WW2 Victory; (British) Commander-(Military) Order of the British Empire (very rare, especially to a US Officer)
