Thor Hammer Mjölnir Challenge Coin (United States Armed Forces and Navy Chief Petty Officer Editions)
The brain child of STS1 (SS) Alvarez and the most successful challenge coin in the history of the Minnesota exceeding over 1000 units sold in just over six month. Taking more than a year to design, develop and produce the original definitive edition of the Hammer Coin that changed the face of the challenge coin industry. Norse history/mythology is rich among the crew of the Minnesota and when selecting a coin to represent the strength of our First Class Petty Officer Association, logically we choose the iconic God of Thunder Thor’s Hammer.
This is Version 3 of the hammer coin and was customized to include visual representations of traditional United States Armed Forces characteristics. On the long sides the Hammer, the recognizable diamond deck pattern which represents leadership from the ground up or from the deck plates and on the other side the American Flag. The head proudly displays the American Bald Eagle on one side and laser engraved Dog Tags on the other. Laser Engraved on the faceted edges are stars as they serve an important role across the Armed Forces branches. On the top, clear enamel Metal Stickers for each United States Armed Forces branch including: United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, United States Army, United States Air Force, United States Space Force, United States Coast Guard, United States National Guard and the Department of Defense.
As a founding member of the USS Minnesota’s First Class Petty Officer Association; which sought to provide mentorship and leadership from the deck plates; it is traditional to have a challenge coin to trade among other Associations, aboard other boats, utilize them for fund raising and most importantly as a gift to a shipmate for a job well done. (First-class petty officers often form associations at their commands. Membership in these associations are voluntary. First Class Petty Officers normally serve as a Leading Petty Officer of a division, and direct the activities of a division.)

Finished in a variety of ways: This United States Navy Special Edition Hammer comes in a Copper Plated Finish with a Brown Enamel Handle.
They weigh approximately 6 ounces and measure: 3 inches in length, 1 inch in depth/thick and 1.5 inches wide.
