Tailors Shears Wiss and Sons, early 1900s:
$137.00

Manufactured by Wiss and Sons, world renowned maker of scissors and cutlery to this day. These tailor shears were part of a privately owned collection obtained from a 94 year old 3rd generation tailor in the garment district of New York City. Many of the items I am placing for sale were owned by this gentleman\'s grandfather and father and exhibited in a display in their shop for customers to enjoy. Each piece offered for sale is a testament to the craftsmanship and ingenuity of American toolmakers and are a perfect addition for any collector. They are ideal for cutting fabrics and textiles and especially ideal for those who are seeking a functional pair of shears / scissors with a historical twist and value owning a piece of history.
The cutting edge is exceptional and the shear works perfectly. They are in their original state and have not been modified.
The manufacture of scissors and shears in America was started primarily English and German immigrants who had worked and trained in cutlery shops of Solingen, Germany and Sheffield, England. Upon arrival to America they gravitated to either the Naugatuck Valley in Connecticut, Newark, New Jersey and Fremont, Ohio which each became major centers of scissor and shear manufacturing in the U.S.. These areas were chosen initially because of a combination of ample supply of water or natural gas power, seaports and/or railroad systems to move goods cheaply and well established city infrastructures.
The blades are 8 inches in length, are in excellent working condition. The entire shear is 15 inches in length.
