Superb Quarter Plate Daguerreotype Of A Couple In Library. For Sale

Here we have a very early Daguerreotype of exceptional quality. You can tell it\'s early because both the frame and plush are plain and unadorned. The frame instead of wrapping itself around the glass and plate to sandwich them together is actually underneath the thick glass. The original seals are there but have had to be strengthened with modern tape. The image is of a man and wife in a book lined room. He is sitting in a hardback chair with a book in front of him. She has a knitting needle in her hand and is sitting on a leather armchair. Everything is monochrome. Not a hint of colour to be seen, yet very well done. Even the flowers are black and white. It may even be of a painting. Curiously, there\'s no name attached to it, neither subject or photographer. He was obviously someone very important. I\'m sorry I couldn\'t take better photos.
