Native American Sterling Silver & Turquoise Ponytail Holder by Chief Wolf Robe Hunt(né Wayne Henry Hunt), madein 1956.
Provenance - In August of 1956 when I was 12 years old, my family took a road trip to Gallup, New Mexico for the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. While there, a friendof our family knew Wolf Robe\'s daughter \"Punky\". She was wearing a sterling silver(with turquoise nuggets)ponytail holder like the one here. I liked it so much my father asked Wolf Robe if he could make one for me. As far as I know, Wolf Robe only made two of these sterling silver ponytail holders . . . one for his own daughter \"Punky\" and one for me.
It is Hallmarked, in small type, \"WOLF ROBE STERLING\" under the curvature of the holder. The butterfly antennae are approximately 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) long, the semi-rounded part is slightly less than 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. There is a small knob on each side to keep the ponytail holder in place using a rubber band oranything else you would like to use.
Chief Wolf Robe Hunt was a first class artisan. After all these years the ponytail holder is still in superb condition.
