This is an extremely rare antique Stanley No 5 Jack Plane (Type 3) only manufactured by Stanley in 1872 and 1873.
Unfortunately, due to the carelessness of some unknown postal worker, the unique frog on this plane is broken in two (See Pictures 16-21). It's a clean break and I have no doubt a talented metal worker could make it good as new. I thought about fixing it myself but ultimately decided to leave it to whomever took on the project of restoring the plane.
Even though the break goes across the screw holes, there is actually enough of the threads on the top part to hold the frog to the body as is (See Pictures 8 and 9)
The same incident that broke the frog also broke the horn off the tote. The broken-off horn will be included with the rest of the plane and it looks like it will glue nicely. The tote also has a previous repair that looks like it was done a very long time ago.
Other than those two (admittedly heartbreaking) issues, the plane is in pretty good shape for a tool that's just over 150 years old and all the parts appear to be original.
Please look very carefully at the pictures so you can judge the condition for yourself and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
