This unique St Lucy medal shows St Lucy holding what looks to be a plate. The traditional representation of St Lucy shows her holding a plate with a set of eyeballs on it. When she was martyred, her eyeballs were gouged out.
St Lucy was a young Christian Roman maiden. When her mother had a serious illness, she prayed at the tomb of St Agatha and she was healed. Lucy was later promised in marriage to a young pagan man. When he found out she was a Christian, he denounced her to the emperor and she was sentenced to death. Her eyes were torn out as part of her martyrdom, making her the patron saint of those with vision problems.
St Lucy is the patron of:
against vision problems
against eye diseases
blind people
ophthalmologists
opticians
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
