What is the Spider-Verse?
"The Spider-Verse" is a storyline in Marvel Comics that involves multiple alternate realities and versions of Spider-Man coming together to fight a common threat. The storyline was originally introduced in the "Amazing Spider-Man" comic book series in 2014, written by Dan Slott with art by Olivier Coipel.
In "Spider-Verse," the main antagonist is Morlun, a powerful and relentless villain who hunts down and consumes the life force of individuals with spider powers from across the multiverse. To stop Morlun and his family, who are collectively known as the Inheritors, various versions of Spider-Man from different universes are brought together by the Spider Totem, a mystical force that connects them all.
The storyline features a vast array of Spider-People, including familiar characters like Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen), and Spider-Man 2099, as well as many alternate versions from different universes, such as Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man India, among others.
"The Spider-Verse" storyline received critical acclaim for its ambitious scope, creative storytelling, and the opportunity it provided to explore different interpretations of the Spider-Man mythos. It has since been adapted into various forms of media, including an animated film titled "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019.
