Southern Bell Advertising Items From '70's & '80's But NEW Salesman Samples:
$40.00

I own an advertising specialty company - now in our 45th year I am happy to report - and worked in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm. For many years my best client was what was formerly known as "The Bell System". Of course after Judge Green's ruling, divestiture occurred and it was later broken up into what was generally called the "Baby Bells" - and later morphed into many variations.

So over the years we worked very closely with Western Electric, AT&T, Southern Bell, Bellsouth, Lucent Technologies, OFS, Avaya, etc. I collected many over-run samples, one-or-a-kind spec samples, and the likes. I am now selling much of that collection via .
I have been searching through old samples and over-runs of orders I sold to various Bell System entities. And I do have many such samples.
Here are ten different interesting Southern Bell items from the 1970's & '80's.
Details:* SouthernBell was very big on attendance, and we provided many varied awards for outstanding attendance. Here is a nice Quartz travel alarm clock. It is compact, folding to just 3.25" x 2". Inscribed in black on the metallic gold cover is "Southern Bell Outstanding Attendance". The front cover folds around to create a stand. It is multi-function, including a snooze feature. Distinctively gift boxed with a protectivetravel sleeve and instructions. It was manufactured in Taiwan, not China, so higher quality. I inserted a new button battery, and it works perfectly!* One of my favorite items that I sold to almost all of my accounts is this handy "Magic-Grip". It has so many uses around the home and office. One of my single female clients called it her "husband" because she used it to loosen even the tightest jars. Made in the U.S.A.* We sold S.B. many luggage tags, as many of their employees traveled quite a bit. Here is one in genuinesuede russet leather. It is branded with the "Bell System" logo and tag line "National Sales". These luggage tags are designed with a semi-concealed front window. At the time there were disreputable people who would hang around the airport and read luggage tags. They could get a name and address. This was an indication that the traveler would be away from home, and therefore a good mark to hit. With this tag, at least the crook had to make the overt act of liftingthe flap. This was manufactured in the U.S.A.* Anotheritem in suede russet leather is this nice coaster. The size is 4" in diameter, and embossed with several Southern Bell products of the day, e.g., Teleprinter 1000, Dataspeed 4540 Terminal, Dataphone II Service, etc. Also made in the U.S.A.* Back in the day, Park Industries in Murfreesboro, TN was a favorite supplier. Park manufactured high quality gifts, mostly in aluminum. Here is an example of their fine 6' retractable tape measure. It is in brushed anodized aluminum and features two side imprint. side one has the slogan "The Professionals In Motion...serving People In Motion" and the Bell system Seal. The reverse side had a cartoon drawing of a southern Bell phone booth. Park applied the imprint using a proprietary method such that the copy will never come off! It is still packaged in its original gift box with directions and warranty card. U.S.A. made.* Often S.B. would need to immediately apply their logo. For these purposes, we sold them a nice Mylar foil disc. The disc is 1.875", on hard Mylar foil - with adhesive back. They are hot-stamped in a neutral brown for a subtle appearance. U.S.A. made.* In the 1980's S.B. had a program called "Up Front '80". This fine Sheaffer Reminder Clip pen was used. It was called that name as in order to put it into your pocket with the clip open, the pen had to be retracted. U.S.A. manufactured - in Fort Madison, WI.* I think it was somewhere in the 1980's that B. Franklin Skinner was President. Mr. skinner, or "Big Frank" as he was affectionately known around S.B. - but not to his face - had his staff create nine company values: Service, Stewardship, Willingness to Listen, Respect, Excellence, Integrity, Willingness to Inform and Innovation. Here is a beautiful brushed gold aluminum key tag with the values die stamped and color filled in black on one side and a personal message from Mr. Skinner on the reverse. It was still in it's protective sleeve. As a side note, about a year later, one of the values was removed. I think it may have been "Willingness to Inform", but not certain. Perhaps an old S.B. employee will know... Also U.S.A. made.* 3-D metal cast touch tone telephone emblem in gold and black. These were very cute 3-D emblems that we created to affix to various gifts as a subtle reminder of S.B. The size is 7/8", and U.S.A. made in Providence, RI.* And the last item is a handsome custom gift box. We had these custom made to hole mostly writing instruments, and I especially liked to sell Sheaffer or Parker pens to the Bell system and insert the pen in this custom box.Details:This gift box is in metal, covered in a leather like material with hinged back. The inside has a silk top printed with the Bell System Seal, and a gold velour base. The size is 6" x 2.5" x 1.25" closed.
This assortment of 10 different items are a great opportunity for anyone who was affiliated with Southern Bell or perhaps collects old telephone memorabilia. They will be well packed to insure safe arrival. Although quite old, all are in as new condition, and never used.
It is amazing - and interesting to see how many were made in the U.S.A.! Times have certainly changed...
