Hard to Find - Gently Used - GOLDEN GATE EXPOSITION - SAN FRANCISCO - 1940 Singer Featherweight with the Serial No. AF165508. That indicates this machine would have been one of 20,000 made somewhere between Feb. 15, 1939 and July 11, 1939 when another batch of machines was started. Evidently the machines were produced well before the Exposition was actually held in 1940. The same thing appears to be true of those that have the 1939 Golden Gate Exposition Badge on them. Of course, Singer was busy manufacturing a large number of Featherweights at all times, but it seems they chose only a few times to give some of those produced the priviledge of having a very special badge with a blue ring on the outer edge. That special badge said GOLDEN GATE EXPOSITION - SAN FRANCISCO 1939 or GOLDEN GATE EXPOSITION - SAN FRANCISCO 1940. It is not know for sure just how many of these badges were actually applied on machines but not very many have been recorded.
The machine has been used as the pictures show but it appears to have been well taken care of. The decals are in very good condition, too. To look at this machine you would never believe it is 80 YEARS OLD. It has been cleaned and serviced and is ready to start sewing a good stitch as soon as you take it out of the case. An original bobbin case is in the machine. The wooden case is in good condition with both latches working. It has the tray that fits in the top to hold an original foot control and other items such as an original manual, original tube of lube that should not be used due to age, 2 original keys with the Singer envelope they came in, 5 Featherweight bobbins and a 1-1/3 oz. Singer oil can.
