Self Winding New York Standard Watch Co regulator #10 wall clock electric For Sale

Offered is a rare magnificent and large (49 by 19 by 8 inches) oak cased Regulator Number 10 New York Standard Watch Company clock. The company was in business making clocks for only a very few years at the turn of the century ( @ 1896-1903). They were expensive at the time and were regarded as fine timekeepers.They do not come up for sale often. This particular clock is running perfectly and keeping quite good time ( well within a minute per month) It is running on power provided by two 1.5 volt D cells putting out 3 volts. The operation of the clockworks is very unconventional in that the power is directly applied to the pendulum via the action of a \"Hipp\" toggle and moves \"backwards\" through the mechanism to move the hands. The operation is really very quiet with little more than a swishing sound as the pendulum moves back and forth. The Hipp toggle impulse type clocks are quite uncommon, but were a noteworthy method tried in the early days in the attempts to apply electricity to timekeeping......a really fascinating clock, indeed.. I believe it to be absolutely original and correct, and the condition is very good. The engineering design of this clock results in very low stress on all pivots and bushings in the movement and the principle of its operation is elegantly simple. Thus, This type of clock is very possible for anyone with some mechanical aptitude to master.
