Marianne Navasie Jim is the granddaughter of world famous
Paqua Naha, the first Frog Woman, and daughter of the renowned second Frog
Woman, Joy Navasie. Though Paqua Naha died when Marianne was only three, she
remembered her grandmother and her mother working the clay to create their
extraordinary works of the potter’s art.
Born in 1951, she began making her pottery at 18 and
continued the family tradition of red and black designs on whiteware, the
unique style pioneered by her grandmother. Her own unique application of the
traditional designs she paints on her pots comes from her left-handedness –-
her designs move in the direction opposite from those of her mother. Marianne
Navasie Jim died in 2007.
