Navy dress dagger with leather sheath, dated 1949.
Stalin era naval dirkaker.
Marked \"ZIK\" and serial numbered \"N05664\" (note the low serial number.) The blade shows a 1949 date of manufacture. The pommel displays the Soviet State Emblem of the style introduced in mid-1946, with 16 scrolls representing the number of republics in the Soviet Union. The quality is spectacular, typical of Soviet daggers produced before the second half of the 50s (later, the austerity measures and high production demands called for cutting some corners and using cheaper materials - such as varnish instead of gold plating on the brass parts).
The sailing ship and anchor artwork on the upper fitting has sharp dark outlines, a feature found on some of the earliest post-war daggers. The leather however is very smooth, without the typical graining found on the wartime issues. Nice dark toned Bakelite grip.
The dagger is in excellent condition. The leather is nearly pristine and shows beautiful healthy sheen. There are only very light impression marks, no significant wear or scuffing. The crossguard has a couple of tiny dings to the edge, noticeable only at close inspection and not detracting at any rate. The factory-sharpened brilliant blade is in excellent shape: very clean and shows only the lightest in-and-out wear, completely free of dings, pitting or nicks. The grip is practically perfect, with just a couple of tiny dings, without scuffs, noticeable scratches, or cracks. The gold plating on all the brass parts is well preserved and bright having only slightest wear to the bottom.

Heavy duty black silk ribbon with velvet lining, anchors and stars on brass buckles, larger round buckle on the front.
In very good condition. The black ribbon obverse shows very little sings of wear and the velvet lining is still nice and fresh, without tears or moth bites. There is minimal amount of tarnish to the brass buckles and other hardware, no verdigris or significant blemishes.
