LOT-G345. For your consideration is an exceedingly rare and historically important original antique c.1885 royal vellum / parchment Ecclesiastical Indenture, hand signed by Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, including the autographs of other historical notables.


1. The Earl of Carnarvon: Wax seal.


2. Reverend Orlando Wathin Weld Forester: With Paper embossed Seal Ecclesiastical of Commissioners for England on a Tag.


3. Right Reverend George Lord Bishop of Southwell:  Paper Embossed Seal of the First Bishop with Heraldry on a Tag.


Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, KP, PC, DL, FRS, FSA (24 June 1831 – 29 June 1890), known as Lord Porchester from 1833 to 1849, was a British politician and a leading member of the Conservative Party. He was twice Secretary of State for the Colonies and also served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.


Consisting of 2 large vellum sheets regarding the Transfer of Mortgage Debt of 9973.00 English pounds sterling and 17 shillings and interest, secured on Farms and Land, in Grimstone, and Elsewhere in the County of Leicester England.


Vellum sheet Number 1:


The Honorable and Reverend Orlando Wathin Weld Forester. Canon of York Cathedral and Rector of the Rectory and Parish Church of Gedling in the Parish of Nottingham (England) and in the Diocese of Southwell, Clerk in Holy orders of the First Part.


The Right Honorable Henry Howard Molyneux Earl of Carnarvon the patron of the said Rectory of the Second Part.


The Right Reverend George Lord Bishop of Southwell (England) of the Third Part.


And….The Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England of the Fourth Part.

The detailed schedule for 42 properties.


With reference to, in the Year 1879…A portion of the Glebe Land of the Rectory of Gedling was purchased by The Great Northern Railway Company England.


Also various other sales and mortgages of many other Ecclesiastical Owned meadows, pastures, arable, garden, plantation, cottages in the parishes of Grimstone and Thorby in the County of Leicester (England) 42 in total.
