Rare Antique Thermometer 19th C Ornate Engraved Bronze & Brass Grand Tour? WORKS:
$183.75

This listing is for a Rare Antique Thermometer 19th C Ornate Engraved Bronze & Brass Grand Tour? It is in good working order. I have not tested it to the half degree of course, but it seems to be quite accurate to the bare eye. It has hand engraved markings for 0-140 degrees Fahrenheit on the left, and on the right it has Fever heat, Blood heat, Temperate, Freezing, and Summer heat. It is fun to touch the tube at the bottom and watch the liquid rise just from the heat of your own hand (this too shows it works). The tube & liquid appear to be fully original, and have no damage at all. It is custom made so that at the top the nib of the tube loops into the brass plate it sits on, probably a hard item to replace.

It is not marked by a maker, only numbered “3” on the top left corner of the engraved plate. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of styles of decor. It has a regal neoclassical yet modern look, accentuated by its extremely quality materials and feel. The pillars are exceptionally detailed, with hand engraved patterns and an exaggerated corinthian design. It makes this an excellent little extra piece for your collection, one your friends definitely wont have! It is a great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor.

It is in good condition, with no major damage. The one pillar has a tiny indentation that is easily missed- I didnt notice it until under bright lights for photographs. It has no other dents major scratches or other cosmetic issues. As said the thermometer tubes glass is in excellent shape. The brass and bronze have a gorgeous patina that accentuates the design. It is likely a 19th C grand tour piece, early 1800s or so, but could possibly be earlier or later, I am unsure without knowing a maker.

Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers always considered. Comes as shown, please see photos for details and measurements. Comes fully insured in shipment, packed with extreme care.
