RARE!! 1945 VINTAGE FILENE'S DEPARTMENT STORE RESTAURANT LUNCH MENU BOSTON, MASSRARE!! original luncheon menu from Filene's Department Store Restaurant, Boston, Massachusetts, September 4, 1945. Filene's Restaurant was located on the seventh floor of the company's flagship building in Boston. The menu features an image of the Fairbanks House in Dedham,Massachusetts. The menu features a variety of period delicacies, including lobster and other seafood, salads, sandwiches, beverages, and more.

Jonathan Fairbankscame fromHeptonstallin the West Riding ofYorkshire, England, toBoston, Massachusetts, in 1633, and in 1636–37 acquired land and settled inDedham, Massachusetts, where he built the house on his farm land. The house is likely the oldest dwelling house in New England and the oldest house continuously owned by the builder and his lineal descendants.[4]It is also regarded as the oldest surviving timber-frame structure in North America. Since the original purchase, the estate has never had amortgageencumbrance upon it.[4][3]The house museum is now a well-known Dedham attraction.

There is evidence that some residents practiced folk magic in the house, including placing hex marks and various objects in the house to ward off witches and other evil spirits.[5]

Hex signs were carved into the mantle to protect the house from fire and witches.[6]Shoes have been found in the attic and behind the chimney, and are presumed to have been placed there to prevent evil spirits from entering the house.[6]
