VINTAGE AND RARE nameplate from theNEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD 12 bedroom sleeping car PORT OF NEW YORK.Only two of these cast brass nameplates were ever made so it could beconsidered a RARE ITEM OF RAILROADIANNA.. The nameplate was mounted to one enddoor of that Sleeping Car. The solidbrass nameplate was cast and the cast lettering measures ¾ inch high. The nameplate is 13 ¼ inches long and 2inches high. The two mounts on the backare threaded for screws used to secured the nameplate to the railroad car’sdoor. This lightweight streamlined sleepingcar was built by PULLMAN STANDARD in 1949 and was used on the NEW YORK CENTRAL’sovernight trains throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Only 14 of the “PORT” series sleepers werebuilt for the New York Central. After thecar was retired Ringling Brothers Circus bought it and used it in their circustrains.
