Pioneer MXA-1A Tube Multiplex Adaptor FM MPX Stereo decoder , SERVICED/WARRANTY:
$155.00

Clearing more shelf space...
Offered this time is a wonderful & rare vintage Pioneer MXA-1A tube FM multiplex stereo decoder unit.
This unit is FULLY SERVICED & ALIGNED, by me, Talking Dog Transducer Co., and includes vintage USA tubes(B&K 707 tested as very good to near new spec). It is \"plug \'n\' play\", ready to use.
I\'ve just reminded myself, having removed the bottom cover, that when I serviced this mpx a few years ago, I also did a bit of significant upgrading. While the power supply\'s two-section main filter cap is in fine shape, it is small, so I supplemented it substantially with added Nippon Chemicon caps. Also, the main input & output signal caps, while very reliable oil caps, were also too small in value to get full bass extension, so I also supplemented these with 10x larger value polypropylene caps to extend bass reponse all the way down to subsonic. Balance of service was simply reforming supply caps(very slowly), cleaning switches & tube sockets & installing one RCA 6CG7 tube.
So, this MXA-1A is actually a nice bit better than new, performance-wise. And under-priced.
Since the multiplex decoder & it\'s output stages comprise >95% of the sound, this unit is a great way to effectively turn your 2-dimensional & dry sounding solid state FM tuner, as long as it has either \"decoder\" or \"scope\"/\"oscilloscope\" outputs(which a lot of great ss tuners do) into a 3-dimensional & rich sounding tube tuner, while maintaining the superior station-pulling performance of your modern tuner. In my rather expert opinion, this is the best sounding separate-unit multiplex decoder you can get, short of a McIntosh MX1(incredibly rare as a separate unit). I firmly consider it better in sound & build quality to the more common Fisher & Eico units.
Cosmetically, other than, for it\'s age, remarkably minor damage to the top case cover, it\'s in great condition.
Sold with my usual ONE YEAR WARRANTY.
Ships to cont. USA address only, via fedex ground at $25 flat rate, packed expertly.
Payment via paypal or cash on local pickup(Tucson).
P.S.: Don\'t be bashful about making an offer. I may surprise you, if it\'s not an insultingly low one.
