This is an original oil painting of Lord Robert Baden Powell, of Gilwell, by an Italian WW2 POW.
It is the same pose as the original 1929 painting portrait of Baden Powell, presented to BP in 1929, at the ‘29 World Jamboree, for his birthday along with the famous Rolls Royce car, “JamRoll”, was given to him with a collections of funds, raised by worldwide scouts at a pence per scout. The car, the Caravan, Eccles, and the David Jagger original oil painting was a gift to the surprised Baden Powell.
The Rolls Royce and Eccles have been acquired, restored and is in use today in the UK by devoted Scouters across the UK, USA, and other countries to promote Scouting.
This painting is an original, and provenance will be provided to the fullest extent possible to the owner upon purchase.
This iconic original speaks volumes about how the world admired and respected Baden Powell, across the world at a time when goodwill was needed. The painter undoubtably was involved in Scouting as an Italian youth, and was more than likely felt the impact of Baden Powell’s Scouting for Boys and Girls at the time of BP’s death in 1941.
The UK Scout Association has the original Jagger 1929 painting at Gilwell Park.
Proceeds from the sale of this Painting will go Gilwell Park to support their historical display and heritage needs.
