ORIGINAL 1950'S NASH METROPOLITAN
"FLYING LADY" HOOD ORNAMENT

Available for purchase is an original hood ornament for a 1950's Nash Metropolitan. The ornament is known as the "Flying Lady" or "Flying Goddess". It depicts anude woman lying face down with her chin propped by her hands and crossed arms. The complete hood ornament had separate "wings" that extended out the sides, which are not included here. Some people removed the wings for a more streamlined and risqué look. This hood ornament was not installed at the factory but was available as a dealer add-on. It wasdesigned by pinup artist George Petty of Esquire magazine fame. The last photo shows Mr. Petty with the model used to design the piece (photo not included).This hood ornament measures about 9 1/2" long and 3 1/2" wide. The bottom side is marked with a diamond-shaped logo and the numbers "25428-2" (see closeup photo). I purchased this hood ornament at a recent estate sale. It's guaranteed to be an original 1950's ornament and NOT a reproduction. As I mentioned previously, the separate wings are missing but it can be mounted without them (some car enthusiasts prefer it that way). The chrome finish looks rather nice but it does have some pitting. Mounting screws and nuts are included, but not the mounting platform.
