Original 1945 color lithographed topographic map of southern Japan,printed morethan 75years ago.

• The map is drawn on a scaleof 1:1,000,000 and the overall size is 76 x 81 cm [30" x 31¾"].
• It was compiled by theUnited States Army Map Service in 1945 and isdated in the lower margin.
• Topography is drawn inrelief and detailsinclude cities, towns, villages, railways, and roads.
• Among the named places andfeatures are Kagoshima, Kyoto, Nara, the East China Sea,part of southeastern Korea, Wakayama, Kumamoto, Watamatsu, Osaka,Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Kokura.
• During the Second World War the city of Kokura was theprimary targetfor an American bomber that was supposed to drop the world's firstplutonium bomb, three days after the atomic bomb devastated Hiroshima.
• But Kokura was spared because the city was obscured bycloudsand smoke from the firebombing of the neighboring city of Yawata theday before, and the missiion commander diverted to the secondarytarget, Nagasaki.
• Condition: The map is in very good, lightly usedcondition, bright and clean, with norips, tears, or writing. It has been folded to approximately 8" x 7½"and is blankon the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scansand feelfree to ask any questions.
