ORIGINAL WWI WW1 US Browning BAR Belt 2nd. Assistant, Gunner - Well Marked:
$300.00

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A WORLD WAR ONE US BROWNING BAR 2ND ASSISTANT AMMUNITION BELT
The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was designed by John Browning in 1917to support the Allied Expeditionary Forces (AEF) fighting in Western Europe. Due to the stagnant nature of the trench warfare on the Western Front, the allies needed alight to medium weight machine gun that was light enough to be carried and operated by one or two men that also had to enough firepower to support a squad and suppress the enemies firepower at the same time. Due to it's versatility to befired from a fixed or mobile position, it quickly became a permanent fixture ofAmerican infantry squads.
The variant of the BAR belt pictured above was made for soldiers assigned to operate with another solder firing the Browning Automatic Rifle. This soldier would carry extra 30-06 ammunition is 20rd magazines for the BAR as well as eight (8) stripper clips (5rds each) for the M1903 Springfield or M1917 Eddystone, which were standard issue for infantry at the time both chambered in 30-06.
The belt is in near mint condition with some storage stains and one area of fraying. Please examine the pictures as I have tried to illustrate the belt's actual condition. As you can see from the photos, the original manufacturers markings as crisp and clear. Pay particular notice to the stamp marked 1516. This is marked on both ammunition pouch pieces of the belt which indicates these pieces have been together for 106 years.
