OHASIDO OHASHIDO Extra Large 18K Band Urushi Ebonite FP 14K Custom Sailor Nib+ BOX & LEATHER CASE
This fountain pen for sale is a mint in box example of Ohasido\'s iconic torpedo style with a huge pure 18K ring. The box is signed by the late master artist Uehara Eiichii. It also comes with its own custom leather Ohasido stamped carrying case.
The pen was made between 2000-2010 by Mr. Eiichi. This pen with the additional extra large pure 18K ring topped the range for this model. Photo #3 is a 2004 article showing the Ohasido lineup with prices. This particular pen with the extra large 18K ring was a 230% premium over the standard model.
The nib on this pen was designed by famed Sailor nib master Nobuyoshi Nagahara.
Thepen is in mint, like new condition. The black urushi lacquer hasa stunning mirror gloss. The 18K gold trim and band and 14K nib are pristine. A fantastic show piece. The custom leather Ohasido carrying case is also in mint condition. It\'s a great compliment to the pen. The signed box, made of paulownia, is mint condition as well.
BACKGROUND ON MASTER UEHARA EIICHI AND OHASIDO (OHASHIDO):
The manufacturing standards Ohasido are fascinating. Mr. Uehara Eiichi believed in keeping the traditional manufacturing methods used by his father since 1912. All his pens were (and still are) hand turned on the company\'s original foot powered lathe and only used natural urushi collected in nature, believing it superior to farm harvested urushi used by most companies today. He also used pure gold for the trim, as on this pen. For the nib, Mr. Eiichi turned to Nobuyoshi Nagahara, the highest regarded nib master of the late 20th century, for the design. Sailor custom manufactured each nib.
Ohasido requirements for selling are just as unique. Their fountain pens can only be purchased in person, by appointment, from Ohasido\'s store in Sendai or at local pen shows in Japan where Ohasido makes pens on site. Each pen is specially made to the purchaser\'s hand size, writing angle and writing pressure, making every pen unique in terms of length, weight, balance and nib modification.
