Navajo Gold in Quartz Ring Hand-Made Stamped 9.25 1800\'s to Very Early 1900\'s:
$1250.00

Welcome!

MATERIALS: Old gold in quartz stone, just wonderful, set in hand stamped sterling or coin silver.

This ring is an anomaly of survival and purpose.Gold Quartz was formed while the earth was still in a molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold were sometimes trapped within quartz crystals. When these quartz specimens are discovered, very few have the potential for jewelry.

Gold quartz was a function of the California gold rush in 1849. The era of gold quartz came to an end around 1906, precipitated by the great San Francisco earthquake which destroyed most of the city. About three decades ago, collectors began searching for antique gold quartz jewelry. Now, collectors are seeking out a fast diminishing supply of these antique pieces representing the romance of the gold rush!

I\'ve never seen it used in Native American jewelry before, but this wonderful Navajo piece is one that is very old. It has to date to the 19030s at the latest and it looks much earlier, may date to the 1800\'s. It has worn Navajo stamping on it and the silver has a short crack on one side at the top, which you can see doesn\'t endanger the integrity of the ring or the stone. The ring has considerable wear, has been beloved for centuries, and I\'ve enjoyed wearing it, too. It comes reluctantly from my personal collection, in very good vintage condition, an amazing survivor. If anything can be called a \"museum piece\" this one can. It takes my breath away, even though I\'ve had it for some time. I don\'t think you\'ll ever see another like this!

5/8\" wide, weighing 6 grams, measuring 9.25 on the ring sizer.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
