MaltheHasselriis, (Danish/American, 1888 ? 1970) who?s work is represented in theSmithsonian Institute of Art, was a self-taught miniaturist whose sittersincluded Pearl Buck, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, and President John F. Kennedy.Hasselriis was also a talented illustrator, providing watercolors for storiesby Pearl Buck, and for editions of The Ugly Duckling and Tales of aChinese Grandmother. He won the Levantia White Boardman award for bestminiature in 1948 and 1956, as well as the Brooklyn Society of MiniaturePainters Medal of Honor.
