Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) people lived on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The Makah people live today in Neah Bay, Washington, USA on the extreme northwestern tip of the state.
Makah and Nuu-chah-nulth people are famous for their whaling culture as well as their fine basketry. Their baskets are often decorated with whaling canoes, whalers hurling harpoons, and whales.
Fine geometric patterns and sea birds are also favorite designs.
