The History
In 1914, IBM CEO Thomas Watson Sr. introduced the THINK slogan. His timeless message behind this simple slogan was to work smarter, not harder. Watson exhorted his salesmen to use their heads, not their feet; their job was to think. The word has since become famous as IBM's corporate motto and still stands as a call to action for all. During the 1920s, Watson continued to encourage innovation and THINK became a ubiquitous slogan in IBM paraphernalia including notepads, advertising, products even the title of the company magazine. By the 1950s, IBM sales staffs distributed THINK" signs like this one to their customers. An IBM customer representative gave the donor this sign.
Looking upon my own THINK plaque on my desk, I'm reminded to give pause to what I'm doing and ask myself if there’s a better way. The human brain has an extraordinary ability to think creatively - sometimes we need to remind ourselves how lucky we are.
