HARDCASTLE JACK O'LONDON (pre-Dunhill/pre-1967) + Bewlay (1950s) *N. MINT* Pipes
Two excellent quality English straight billiards made some time in the 1950s-1960s.
Both of medium size (similar in size to Dunhill's Group 3).
The Hardcastle was made during the company's pre-Dunhill Era (before 1967, the year when Dunhill took over the company and downgraded it), i.e. during the famous Family Era (1946-1967).
The Bewlay were being manufactured by top English companies (Barling, Sasieni, Comoys, Orlik among them) before 1960.
Excellent grains on both of these pipes which are in near mint condition.
The longer pipe has approximate length 146 mm (5.75"), bowl height 46 mm (1.81"), chamber depth 37 mm (1.46"), chamber diameter 18 mm (0.71") and weighs 34 gr (1.20 oz). Shank marks : HARDCASTLE'S [underlined, arched, logo], BRITISH MADE, JACK O'LONDON, 172 - Stem marks : H [on the side]
The shorter pipe has approximate length 136 mm (5.35"), bowl height 42 mm (1.65"), chamber depth 36 mm (1.42"), chamber diameter 18 mm (0.71") and weighs 28 gr (0.99oz). Shank marks : Bewlay [script, logo], STANDARD, LONDON MADE, O, 27 - Stem marks : B [on the side, partly faded]
Both pipes do not take filters and have original vulcanite stems. The Hardcastle has metal tube in its tenon.
