Information about the Artist
Bellmaker Gerry Ballantyne (now deceased) of Overland Park, Kansas, is considered one of the most skilled and creative artisans in the world of bells today. His extraordinary series of figural bells, cast in the Lost Wax method, are among those most fervently sought by collectors. Active in bells since 1953 and a former president of the American Bell Association, Ballantyne made his first bell in 1972. He originally issued one annual and one special edition bell each year; the bells proved so popular that he found it necessary to cut back on this two-a-year cycle. His bells come from history and literature; their fascinating stories account for part of the bells\' attraction. Each bell is a limited edition with most averaging 250. The theme of the bell is often carried onto the decorative base. Several of his bells are nodders, meaning that their heads or feet move rhythmically when pushed, and all have clappers inscribed with the letter \"B\" enclosed in a circle.
