Gerber Paul Axial LockSeries 2PM Pakkawood Handles. The is a very unique knife as it has an axial locking mechanism.
This discontinued piece features a stainless steel frame with full stainless backspacer and pakkawood handle slabs. Designed by aero space engineer Paul Poehlmann, the Paul button lock mechanism is the main attraction on this folder providing for effortless manual opening and closing of the blade.
The knife has genuine Pakkawood handles for light weight strength. The blade is mirror polished aircraft quality hardened stainless steel. The blade has some marks from handling.
The knife is 6 3/8\" long when open and 3 3/4\" long when closed. The drop point blade is 2 5/8\" long and is made from polished stainless steel.
Paul W. Poehlmann, holder of some 20 patents for locking folding knives, patented his \"Axial Locking Mechanism\" in 1976. This is the mechanism that made him famous among knife makers/designers. This one hand opening mechanism is often considered the smoothest and most precise ever designed.
An Axial Locking Mechanism Paul knife locks in both the open and closed positions, yet is so smooth it will open and close simply by the pull of gravity. There is no need to flick a Paul knife open with a snap of the wrist; it literally falls open, at least when perfectly adjusted. It is a very elegant, durable and safe design, but must be built to exceptionally tight tolerances.
The knife opens and closes with the push of the button that is integrated into thebolster.
