CRITTENDEN SCHMITT ARCHIVES OWNS THE LARGEST PRIVATE COLLECTION OF WEAPON FUZES IN THE WORLD.

SHELL, BOMB, LAND MINE, BOOBY TRAP, GRENADE, ROCKET, MORTAR, TORPEDO, DEPTH CHARGE, SEA MINE , TACTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL OF THE WORLD AND ALL ERAS.

MANY CAME FROM THE COLLECTIONS OF U.S. ORDNANCE INTELLIGENCE AGENTS COLLECTION OF , SGT. DOUGLAS DUER , SGT. F. PHILLIPS WILLIAMSON AND COL. JARRETT ( HEAD OF FOREIGN WEAPONS INTEL AT ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND).

SOME OF THESE ITEMS CAME FROM THE REICH COLLECTION AT HILLERSLEBEN PROVING GROUNDS WHICH WAS CAPTURED BY THE UNITS OF THE MEN NAMED.

THE REICH COLLECTION INCLUDED FUZES OF ALL NATIONS.

THERE WERE AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT FUZE REFERENCE COLLECTIONS RECOVERED FROM HILLERSLEBEN PROVING GROUNDS

COLLECTION A. DISPLAY COLLECTION MOUNTED ON MARBLE BASES. BOTH SECTIONED AND FULL BODY FUZES MOUNTED THIS WAS FOR DISPLAY.

COLLECTION B. TRAINING COLLECTION. THESE FUZES WERE SET IN LOOSE ON THEIR STANDS IN ORDER FOR TRAINEES TO HANDLE AND EXAMINE THEM

COLLECTION C. LOOSE FUZES FROM COLLECTION A. OBVIOUSLY DRILLED FOR MOUNTING BUT NOT MOUNTED ON A BASE

COLLECTION D. SECTIONED AND FULL BODY MOUNTS NOT MOUNTED BUT NOT DRILLED FOR DISPLAY

THE GERMAN ARMY CAPTURED COLLECTION FROM MANY ARSENALS ALL OVER EUROPE,RECOVERED FUZES FROM ATTACKS BY MANY COUNTRIES AND RECEIVED FUZES FROM THEIR ALLIES AS WELL.

THIS IS THE ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLE OF THIS FUZE DISPLAY

Another collection which I bought from Col. Jarrett ,who was the head of the Foreign Ordnance technical Intelligence Unit ,was mounted in a different manner and Col. Jarrett suspected that it was used as a training set for explosive ordnance disposal teams. One reason for this idea is that the items are mounted in their wood bases but NOT ATTACHED. That would allow the item to be removed for closer examination and study of the markings. The various markings on the identification plates indicate that the original collection was huge . Most of the collection which I bought from him are German fuzes but there are a few from other countries including Japan, Hungary , Soviet Union , Poland etc. I will be listing all of the sectioned models on as I get to them. The items are in excellent condition as you see in the photos. Col. Jarrett taped each one to keep them from falling out when handled. I have never removed the tape. Most of these have labels added by U.S. ordnance technical intelligence troops. The bases are cut on a slant to present a better image for viewing small parts. Some of these have the original seals attached indicating that they were obtained directly from factory production. The type of sectioning features the safety designs which could also imply use for ordnance tech intel unit training. In 60+ years of collecting I have not seen any other specimens of this collection for sale.

SECTIONED FUZE. DISPLAY MODEL TOTALLY INERT , NEVER ASSEMBLED AS A WEAPON.

CD COPY OF THE OFFICIAL REPORT ON THE HILLERSLEBEN PROVING GROUNDS INCLUDED.

ONE OF ONLY ONE UNKNOWN ARTILLERY FUZE TYPE CAPTURED BY THE U.S. AT HILLERSLEBEN PROVING GROUNDS . HEAVY ARTILLERY FUZE WITH CAP. COULD BE FIRED WITH THE CAP OR WITHOUT DEPENDING UPON THE TARGET. ON MY DESK FOR OVER 40 YEARS. PLANNED TO RESEARCH,NEVER ONE WAS SECTIONED FOR DISPLAY .

I HAVE COLLECTED FUZES FOR OVER 60 YEARS AND HAD INTENDED NOT TO SELL THE COLLECTION. HOWEVER , A BURGLARY OF ONE OF MY STORAGE BAYS RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF MANY RARE SPECIMENS.

NOW I AM SELLNG.

IF YOU ARE A SERIOUSCOLLECTOR OF FUZES YOU WILL SEE MANY RARE ONES NEVER BEFORE OFFERED FOR SALE OVER THE NEXT YEARS

MUCH MORE TO CAME FROM COL. JARRETT WHO WAS THE HEAD OF TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE AT ABERDEEN PROVING GROUNDS DURING WW2 AND LATER FOUNDER OF THE ORDNANCE MUSEUM THERE.

HE VISITED AND STUDIED THE GERMAN PROVING GROUNDS AT HILLERSLEBEN AND HAD A HUGE COLLECTION OF SOUVENIRS FROM THAT PLACE.

A BONUS CD COPY OF THE REPORT ON HILLERSLEBEN IS MOST FAMOUS ORDNANCE PROVING GROUNDS IN GERMANY DURING THE NAZI ERA WAS HILLERSLEBEN.

This is where the famous guns and shells were tested which included such notables as the 800mm ordnance later to be known as \"DORA\" the largest gun ever made. Here the gun was fired and the ammunition type classified.

EXPERIMENTAL GUNS AND AMMUNITION OF ALL KINDS WERE TESTED HERE from the 7.9 caseless ammunition to sabot artillery designs and \"vengance\" weapons including the V3 long range arrow projectile gun designed to terrorize London.

EVEN MORE UNIQUE WEAPONS WERE DESIGNED AND TESTED HERE including electric and wind weapons designed tobring down Allied aircraft with lightning bolts or high speed jets of wind.

THIS IS THE OFFICIAL U.S. ARMY TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE REPORT which was submitted to just a few ordnance officers and commands after the capture of the base by U.S. troops. After study and removal of various weapons ans systems the area was turned over to the Soviet Union and remained in their sector until Germany was reunited.

The Soviet Union also used the grounds for testing after the war. Recently it was turned into a German training base after the removal of thousands of tons of ordnance of all types.

THIS IS THE ONLY COPY OF THIS REPORT WHICH I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT WAS WRITTEN BY MY FRIEND AND FELLOW IAA MEMBER F. PHILLIPS WILLIAMSON.

MY FAMILY HAS BEEN IN THE AMMUNITION WORLD SINCE ABOUT 1849. I HAVE COLLECTED AMMUNITION WITH A SPECIAL INTEREST IN FUZES FOR OVER 60 YEARS. OVER ALL OF THESE YEARS I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE OF THESE FUZES TO COME AVAILABLE. THIS IS IT.

WELCOME TO THE CRITTENDEN SCHMITT ARCHIVES ON LINE MUSEUM AND DE-ACQUISITION SALE. THE ITEMS IN OUR REFERENCE COLLECTION. THE FAMILY COLLECTION DATES BACK TO ABOUT 1849 WHEN MY GREAT UNCLE, RALPH CRITTENDEN AND HIS PARTNER RICHARD TIBBALS CREATED THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL AMMUNITION FACTORY IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF DRAWN CARTRIDGES , PERCUSSION CAPS AND ALL FORMS OF AMMUNITION OF INTEREST TO THE GUN MANUFACTURING FACTORS OF THE DAY. SPENCER , SHARPS , HENRY , VOLCANIC, JENNINGS, REMINGTON, AND SMITH AND WESSON ALL SOLD CRITTENDEN AND TIBBALS AMMUNITION UNDER THEIR OWN TRADE NAME.

THE UNION ARMY BOUGHT MILLIONS OF CTM PERCUSSION CAPS AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SPENCER CARTRIDGES DURING LINCOLN’S WAR AND ALL OF THE SPENCER AMMUNITION USED IS THE FIRST MAJOR BATTLES INCLUDING GETTYSBURGH WERE ALL MADE BY CRITTENDEN AND TIBBALS.

**Over the course of the next couple of years we will be offering for sale thousands of rare specimens of museum quality many of which have never been offered for sale before and which you will likely never see for sale again. Why are we selling this archive and reference collection? After 150+ years of interest in ammunition there is no one else interested in the field in our family. My personal collecting has spanned 50 years and I am at an age when it is time to stop and pass on such activities to others.
