THE FABRICATED BLACKSMITH'S FIREPOT
My firepots have been a huge success over the last 5 years that we've been offering them for sale. There are literally thousands currently in use from coast to coast, border to border, in the U.S. and World Wide! If you need a new firepot to replace your old cast iron one, if you're fixing up an old forge, building a new one, or building your first ever forge, this could be the heart and soul of your forge and you will love it!
This is the same style and size firepot that I've used in my own shop, full time. I have been using it for about 6-7 years now, and love it.
In my years of blacksmithing I have used a number of shapes, sizes, and styles of firepots. I have always fabricated my own instead of buying the expensive cast iron pots. Those firepots are running between $300 and $400 nowadays PLUS shipping.
Fabricated firepots DO NOT require ANY lining like cast iron forges/pots. Fabricated steel is not susceptible to cracking during temperature changes like cast iron is.
So here, for your consideration, is my own fabricated steel firepot. They are made right here in Columbia, Kentucky by me and my helpers in my shop.
Here are the specs.
The inside dimensions of the pot are approximately 10-inches x 12-inches x 3.5-inches.The firepot is made entirely from 1/2-inch thick, plasma cut plate steel, and is welded inside and out.The lip is 1/4-inch plate steelThis firepot will fit in a forge with a minimum 10.5-inch x 12.25-inch rectangular hole in it. The hole in your forge doesn't need to be any larger than 11.75-inches x 13.75-inches.
My firepots come complete and ready to use with a clinker breaker, weighted ash dump, and air-inlet pipe. The ash dump / air pipe system is one-piece and bolts on to the firepot. (The firepot will come disassembled and will require you to attach the ash dump and clinker breaker with a 9/16-inch socket / wrench.)
The ash dump is 11-inches long and 3.5-inches square. It has two tabs on it, which hold the two 3/8-inch bolts to fasten it to the firepot. (Bolts ARE included) It has a weighted ash dump door that permits you to dump coal ashes that are fed through the clinker breaker.
The air inlet pipe is 3-inches round (outside diameter,) and is 4.5-inches long.
The clinker breaker is made with a piece of 1/2-inch thick plate steel, the same as the firepot, and a 1/2-inch round steel handle. It fits in a slot in the ash dump. The round hole in the bottom of the fire pot is 3-inches in diameter, and the clinker breaker is 2.5 inches in diameter, which leaves a 1/4-inch slot all the way around for air to come into the firepot from your blower. This works quite well.
The assembled firepot weighs about 40 pounds.
I have used these pots on a daily basis to forge the hammers, punches, and tongs that I sell here on my store. They will give you many years of good service when taken care of properly.
The in-use pictures are of my own coal forge in my own shop. The hot billet shown on the anvil is a 2.25-inch diameter, 4.25-inch long, 4.75 pound hammer billet heated up to full forging temperature from 35 degrees in 9 minutes. I am personally using a Dayton 1TDP7 blower and air gate control.Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico Customers need to contact me for anaccurateshipping quoteBEFOREordering, otherwise a surcharge of $100 extra shipping will be automatically out the rest of my style="text-align: center;">SHIPPING NOTE: I currently have a 30-businessday handling time on this product.
