Exceptional Pewter Shooting Stars Photo Frame by American Craft Artist / Pewtersmith Leon Fontier
--- artist signed and dated 1997
All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad. The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. The art and collectibles that we are offering to buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.
This wonderful pewter frame features shooting stars in relief. It is by the pewter artist Leon Fontier. He has been producing pewter ware since 1985. The hand crafted pieces are made from lead-free pewter using a variety of pewtersmithing techniques including spinnng, fabrication and casting. Fontier was born in the Congo, educated in Belgium and then moved to central New York in 1972. His work is part of the permanent collections of the Yale University Art Gallery and the White House --- and it is in many private collections. He has won awards at the Winterpark Art Festival in Florida, the Bruce Museum Craft Festival in Connecticut and the 1999 William F. Kayhoe Award for Functional Metal. This photo frame is a shooting stars relief sculpture! It is approximately 5 1/4\" x 7 1/4\". The window / opening is about 3 3/4\" x 5 5/8\". It has glass to protect your photo. The back is covered with a nice flocked burgundy. The stand permits you to display the frame either vertically or horizontally.
To learn more about Fontier Designs / A Pewtersmithing Studio, check out the website (fontier-designs.com) to see what is being created in the studio (in Upstate New York\'s Finger Lakes region) now ---- 15 years after the creation of our distinctive shooting stars frame.
This pewter \"work of art\" is signed along one edge on the back ---- Pewter Fontier {{copyright symbol}} \'97Owning original works of art (and especially functional / usable works of art) --- particularly by American artists --- is always preferable to getting imported \"copies\". We far prefer the genuine and authentic \"original\". The work of many American craft artists we have known over many decades is being \"copied\" --- without their permission --- and being imported and sold at low prices. Even the few who did sell the rights to mass produce copies of their originals often did not get a fair deal for their incredible original designs / creations --- and often even the authorized copies are poor quality stand ins for the splendid originals. So, we strongly encourage you to buy the real thing --- either directly from the artists or on the secondary market. The original always offers enjoyment and rewards that cannot be obtained from copies! So when you see another ad for an arts & crafts fair / festival / show / exhibition, take some time and go. Look --- and talk with the artists ---- and get a first hand introduction to art and creativity in America! These next few months are really \"prime time\" for art and craft shows, so get going ----- and patronize the artists so that they can continue to follow their creative passions!

All items we sell are from a pet free and smoke free environment – unless prior owner history is noted above.
