5 inches thick 31 1/2 inches wide and 9 feet long mostly solid birch with some Ash and one face board of zebra wood

I made all the handrails for veterans hospital in St. Petersburg about 50 years ago. I made this bench from those birch handrail scraps. There are no end butts in the bench. Every board runs full length except for the ones stopped to make the dog slots for the Ulmia made in Switzerland bench dogs.

The bench top is through bolted with 5/8 inch galvanized threaded rod in four places and counter sunk 1 1/2" holes at each side. I did this so the bench can be broken down and taken places with each section weighing right at 100 pounds.

Because I work on antiques so much this bench has become termite infested more than once in the 50-some years I have owned it. It's sitting outside right now because I rolled it from my workshop and into my home about three weeks ago when my home was tent fumigated. I'm now gonna take the bench apart again to put it back in my barn and then by taking it apart, I can make sure that the termite treatment Was successful. We used Vikane gas. I have documentation and a written guarantee from the people who did it, Magnum Pest Control. It's hard for me to believe that Vikane gas can penetrate through 5 inches of solid birch and kill those nasty bugs but they've done it before and it worked just fine. It's all those rascally antiques I work on that are the problem.

That quick action blue English vice might weigh 25 pounds, The Emmert probably weighs 45 pounds and each bench top section (4 of them) will weigh about 100 pounds each. the base of the bench disassembled will weigh about 75 pounds all of this can ship FedEx because every parcel breaks down below their weight limit. Seems like the total shipping might be 6 100-pound parcels, can ship it disassembled with FedEx or UPS.

I've got to take it apart anyway, to verify that the termite fumigation was successful plus those little wheels don't roll very well on that rough brick surface and I gotta now put it back in my shop.

Working on a 5 inch thick hardwood bench provides a certain non-resilience that one can truly appreciate when carving or working with hand tools.

I am not that anxious to sell this bench until my health degrades to the point where I can no longer do Woodworking. But I'm now standards there's too much deviation in our district and if our district 76 years old and the price listed is what I would let it go for today. I am training a helper who will switch everything from store to sale status when my health Dictates that is the way to go
