Early 1840s 1/6 Daguerreotype Photo Man in Front of Painted Backdrop For Sale

Early, original 6th plate daguerreotype... pre-1845 - man seated in front of a painted backdrop. Looking close, it appears to be a lake scene with a turret or tower on the right-hand side. This was out of a Philadelphia estate that contained a couple of Robert Cornelius dags of identified Cresson family members; this is not by Cornelius, but the man was probably related to the Cresson family, and this could have been taken in or around Philadelphia.

Underside of the glass is pretty dirty, but the plate appears free from scratch, swipe, or abrasion type of damage. Looks like there are some small tarnish spots, and POSSIBLY tiny mold spiders, but some/most/all could be on the glass, which I've never removed. I'm not sure if this is sealed or not.. I might have had it out of its case at one time, don't remember, but right now I can't remove it, so I don't know what's going on as far as seals, or if there is anything inside of the case. I see there's a small, shallow chip in the cover glass along the bottom-right edge.. looks like I wasn't the only one who has had a hard time trying to remove it.... The case is complete and intact with no repairs, though the pad seems dried up and warped, lifting up from the case in parts.
