Rare early original vintage photograph shows a farmer feeding his hogs during the winter.Caption on back reads, “Original home (Log) on old Skillett farm 6 miles S/E of Elk Creek, Nebr. Great Grandfather Skillett & his son Charley (my mother’s brother)”.This is a vintage photograph and not a copy or reproduction.Elk Creek got its start circa 1873, following construction of the Aitchison and Nebraska Railroad through the territory. It took its name from Elk Creek nearby, which was named for the elk once seen there.
In 2011, interest in deep-mining of deposits of rare earth minerals southwest of Elk Creek was rekindled. Mining the scandium and titanium has been discussed since the 1970s. Photograph measures 4 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches and is in excellent condition with no bends, tears, or creases and is very sharp and has strong tones with good contrast and clarity.
