Attention to detail.You’re getting a professional-quality product, entirely hand-made bysomeone who has been sculpting, mold-making, and casting for more decades thanI care to talk about. I drew on myexperience of 8 years as an archaeologist, 10 years as a museum exhibitstechnician, and over 50 years of making molds and casts. I have tried to overcome the many problems Isee with other fantasy helmets – particularly weight, comfort, visibility, andventilation.
The sculpture.Although the subject matter is in the realm of fantasy, I used several modernand fossil predator skulls (bird, mammal, reptile, and dinosaur) as referenceswhile sculpting it. I strove forrealistic-looking bone textures and forms, and incorporated flame-shaped motifsto match the dragon’s fiery nature.
The mold and cast. Imade a multiple-part, silicone-rubber mold of the sculpture, then cast it on arotation machine, resulting in a light-weight, hollow form. It is cast in pure polyurethane resin with nofillers, rigid enough to keep its shape and strong enough to absorb mostimpacts. The back of the skull is counter-weighted with a “cold-cast” powderedmetal and resin mix, balancing the helmet atop your head and keeping it from pressingdown on your face.
The color is applied by hand, using only professional-grade signpaints and clear coat. It withstandsheat and sunlight. (Prolonged exposureto UV may cause some yellowing of the resin.)This is the same antique-bone finish I use for my sabertooth fossilskull replicas.
The padding inside the helmet is 1” thick, soft foam. It is designed to leave open the top coolingvents.
Your vision from inside the helmet should be excellent. The skull was designed to give you fullfrontal vision and about 80% of your normal peripheral vision. Black screen over the eye sockets allows yougood vision out, but hides your eyes from viewers, and makes the skull’s eyesockets appear empty.
Your ventilation will be better than in many other full-facemasks. The area below your jaw lets inplenty of air. As well, there are intakecut-outs in the skull’s nostrils, and discrete holes along the top crest serveas vents to let heated air escape.

WARNING:Although tough enough to withstand considerable strikes, this helmet is NOT to be used for motorcycling, bicycling, skateboarding,combat, or any activity where it could receive a severe impact. Use properly safety-rated helmets for theseactivities!
