Work on this translated Ukrainian-Russian dictionary lasted almost half a century - during 1861 - 1907 years. The materials for it were collected by the editors of the magazine \"Kievskaya Staryna\". Since then, the dictionary has had several reprints, and each of them immediately became a bibliographic rarity.The proposed version is the most complete reprint made by photomechanical method from the earliest original. The completeness of this edition lies in the fact that it restores according to the author’s original the part of the register on the letter “Z” (between the words Zachishitsya and Zatsarynskyi, the words Zahid-Zakhurchaty) - about 90 dictionary entries that were accidentally omitted in previous editions and were renewed in archival materials.The famous \"Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language\" was compiled for 46 years (1861–1907) and had a great influence on the establishment of the Ukrainian literary language and literary spelling. \"Dictionary of the Ukrainian language\" has about 68,000 words. At the end of the fourth volume, a separate appendix lists \"People\'s First Names\". \"Dictionary of the Ukrainian language\"B. Hrinchenko is the most complete and lexicographically perfect Ukrainian dictionary until the beginning of the 20th century. Work on the dictionary was also started by E. Timchenko and V. Naumenko, who arranged the lexical material of the Osnova magazine in 1861-62 and later lexical accumulations. In 1897, the first pages of the \"Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language\" were published (in Russian spelling) ( letters A — B) as an appendix to the magazine \"Kievskaya starina\".Since 1902, B. Grinchenko was involved in the work on the Dictionary. He used the works of many correspondents of the magazine \"Kievskaya starina\", collected materials from works of fiction and folklore sources, partially used earlier dictionaries of this type, added significant material of his own (dialectal and folklore records).\"Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language\" became a dictionary of the living Ukrainian language. Here, along with commonly used words, dialectisms are recorded, sometimes narrowly local; they are mostly documented. Ukrainian register words in the dictionary are explained by their Russian counterparts or descriptively, the vast majority of them are illustrated by sentences; with the names of plants and animals, as a rule, their Latin scientific counterparts are given. Ukrainian phraseology is widely presented, often with an explanation of its origin. In the preface to the dictionary, B. Grinchenko presented a concise but rather detailed overview of the history of Ukrainian lexicography.The Ukrainian part of the Dictionary is printed in a new orthography specially developed for this purpose by B. Grinchenko, i.e. hrynchevichivka, which accumulated the best from the previous Ukrainian orthographic practice and which is the basis of modern Ukrainian orthography. The Russian academician O. Shakhmatov gave the \"Dictionary...\" a high rating - at the General Assembly of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1905, the \"Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language\" was awarded the second prize of M.
