Includes original green box withpicture and building description on bottom, original interior lighting withelectrical cord, and styrofoam packing material.
Piece has been taken out ofthe box only once and is in mint condition. It has alwaysbeen in a climate controlled and smoke free environment. Note: This piece ispart of the full size, lightedcollection and not the miniature “town hall” collection.
Historic background: Established about 1717, the Raleigh\'snamesake was Sir Walter Raleigh, who had attempted the first colonization ofVirginia in 1585. His lead bust stood above the door and, during Publick Timesin April and October, planters and merchants from all over the colony passedbeneath it on the way to the court. Some adjourned to play dice in the gamingroom or to feast in the dining room.
Meeting at the suggestion of burgess Richard Henry Lee in aprivate room at the Raleigh in 1773, a group that included lawmakers ThomasJefferson, Patrick Henry, Francis Lightfoot Lee, and Dabney Carr planned theintroduction of a resolution to create a standing Committee of Correspondence.The committee participated in the circulation of letters and othercommunications among the legislatures of the restive colonies – an importantstep toward Continental unity.
