Wildlife Federation.Heston is a lifetime honorary member of the group, but is better known as president of the National Rifle Association, a U.S. lobby group that promotes the right to bear arms. It's an idea Heston believes in, passionately."The gun itself is just a symbol. It's individual freedom we're fighting for," he said."But over the long run, we've managed to beat back the gun haters and retain our right to keep and bear arms without registration and without confiscation."Heston said Canada's gun law, which calls for the registration of all firearms, punishes law-aoffering gun owners and won't reduce crime."You gave in on handguns, then you compromised on the long guns, then comes registration. Next comes confiscation," he said. "Trust me, that's history's proven sequence of events. And that's why with every passing day, more and more Canadians no longer trust their government."
