A rare opportunity to obtain an interesting series ofCrimean War documents in very good condition concerning the disposal details ordestruction of horses belonging to the Light and Heavy Cavalry Regiments in theCrimea. The lot comprises: 1)A detailed hand written return of 162 horses fromthe 4th Dragoon Guards 5th D Guards 1st Dragoons 2nd N B Dragoons (Scots Greys)6th Dragoons 4th Light Dragoons 8th Hussars 11th Hussars 13th Light Dragoons17th Lancers These detailed listing include troop numbers and letters, sex andage and if now fit for use as only transport, those with rest and shelter whocould possibly be of use in the regiments again and those unfit for any furtherservice of any kind. Signed by Sir James Scarlett, HQ Cavalry Camp (Balaclava)March 1855. Government blue paper about 13*8.5 inches. (The yellow patches onthe photographs of the documents are just disposible postit notes to identifythe authors) Sir James Scarlett lead the famous Charge of the Heavy Brigade atBalaclava on the 25th October 1854. 2-7) 6 very interesting handwritten notes(about 8*4 inches each) with 1854 watermarks.These are concerning how and whereto shoot and disopse of those horses unfit for any further service.Sadly manyof these horses must have survived the cavalry charges of the 25th October, butsuffered greatly in the winter months. These are written and signed by thefollowing: 2 by Scarlett, 3 by Bucknell Estcourt (Raglan\'s AG) and 1 by ColonelLord George Paget. All dated during late March and early April 1855. LordGeorge Paget led the 4th Light Dragoons during the Charge of the Light Brigade.A rare chance to own a total of 7 handwritten documents which include 2 of themost famous officers in the Crimean campaign,and the Battle of Balaclava, allof which grouped together, make a fascinating story.
