An original Union Army Ordnance Invoice, listing Hotchkiss, Schenkl, solid & spherical 12 pdr fixed shot & other shells turned over by Captain Schaff as Artillery Ordnance Officer at" Bell Plains", Virginia, May 18, 1864 to Capt RA Stanton during the 1864 Spring Campaign. 1p 8 x 11 ptd/ink, with the Ordnance crossed cannons logo. Edge wear, age stains, Overall VGBelle Plains in Stafford County was the main base for the Union Army supply lines during the 1864 Overland Campaign. . Comes w service info. General Morris Schaff, a Kirkersville, Licking County Ohio native was a West Point cadet with George A Custer and a notable Civil War combat officer serving under Grant & Meade, and author of "The Battle of the Wilderness". Schaff served as a courier during the Battle of the Wilderness and his life was saved when a minie deflected off his belt buckle. General Schaff is buried at Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
