A vintage British Naval Officer hat/Cap made at some point between 1952 and 1974 by leading military outfitter Gieves Ltd of 27 Old Bond St London.
The hat is a little grubby in places, particularly on the inside. Please see close-up photos so you can see its condition.
The dates are based on the following:
*The label says By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen (referring to the late Queen Elizabeth II who reigned from 1952.
Although the company was operating during the reign of Queen Victoria, it had a different name, and the hat features a thin belt/strip of what looks like a type of plastic.
*The label says Gieves Ltd. And gives the company's address as 27 Old Bond St London and 27 Hanover St.
Gieves merged with top tailor Hawkes in 1974, and their Bond St HQ was bombed by the IRA at 6.30pm on January 27 1975. This means it's most likely the hat was made before the merger and before the IRA bomb attack.
Today, Gieves & Hawkes is known as one of the leading Saville Row tailors.
