L'atelier photographique qu'il fonda en 1867 à Beyrouth (Liban) produisit une abondante documentation photographique sur l'Égypte et le Moyen-Orient de la fin du XIX° au début du XX° siècle. Il photographia au Liban, en Égypte, Palestine, Syrie et Grèce ainsi qu'à Constantinople à partir de 1876. Ces photographies connurent une vaste diffusion.
