Black Amethyst, sometimes marketed as Black Galaxy Amethyst, appears to be black and can contain shades of gray upon a first glance. However, under close inspection, the deep violets and dark purples become obvious among the glimmer and glistening sparkle of the druzy formations. Some may look characteristically \"black\" while other specimens may contain a range of deep purples and violets and may even appear to have shades of gray when viewed from a distance. These specimens of the Amethyst Family are not well-known and are, indeed, uncommon if not rare.
