Blackjack produced thisall around combat knife in 1996-97 in Effingham, IL in a quantity of only about50 pieces and is one of the last styles made by Blackjack before it closed its’doors. It’s unique in design and asalways, crafted to Blackjack’s high standards and Blackjack Sharp™.

It’sone of my favorites and from my personal collection. I like to call it the “Gray Ghost” becauseit’s entirely bead blasted giving it an overall gray color. In MINT condition, it’s one of my lastBlackjack pieces and I saved the best for last! Collectors take note: pick up this one and give it a good home inyour collection…you’ll have 1 of only about 50 ever made! Also makes a great gift!

TheSquad Leader is an all-around combat style knife, good for camping and woodcrafting. The design is an adaptation ofthe Trailguide, a very successful knife inspired by the Randall Model 19Bushmaster (introduced in the mid 1990’s and discontinued when Blackjack wentout of business). Micarta is a tough, water resistant, highlydurable material used for the ergonomic handle. Entirely bead blasted, the Squad Leader isinspired in design, highly serviceable, and looks the part. All features the serious collector willappreciate.

Asa bonus, we’re including with the knife a copy of the 1995 Consumer Catalogfrom Blackjack Knives, LTD that shows the full line of each division: BlackjackKnives, Classic Blades, Ek Commando Knives, Cripple Creek folders, Becker Knifeand Tool, H.G. Long Company and Hoffman Design.The catalog is a great resource for information on knives made duringthat time period and belongs in your collection along with the Squad Leader.

The medium blade length ( 4 ½”) and sweeping cutting curve are ideal for virtuallyall field tasks. Width is less than thatof the Trailguide making it better for thrusting. Made of A-2 tool steel that has been triplecryogenically quenched to -300 degrees Fahrenheit and triple tempered giving itthe ability to take and hold a much keener edge than D2 steel. This process refines the structure of thesteel, giving it a finer grain by filling micro voids thereby creating a densermolecular structure in the crystalline matrix of the material. The result is an increase in abrasive wearresistance, tensile strength, toughness, stability and edge holding of theblade.

Theclip point blade and single guard are completely bead blasted to benon-reflective. The choil cutout allowsa firm and secure choke-up grip for maximum edge control on finer cuttingchores. The Squad Leader is compact,easy to pack or carry and tough enough for wood crafting or other field chores.The blade is flat ground from almost fullheight and hand convex-ground to be Blackjack Sharp™. Markingson one side of the blade are: theBlackjack logo, “BLACKJACK KNIVES”, and “Squad Leader”. The other side is marked: “A2 TOOL STEEL”, “MADE IN U.S.A.”,“EFFINGHAM, IL”. SEE PHOTOS.

TheMicarta Handle is water resistant, rugged, and holds up well under all but themost extreme use. The handle and buttcap are also bead blasted to be non-reflective.There is a hole in the butt cap where you can add a lanyard if youchoose. There are red and white spacerson either end of the handle, near the guard and near the butt cap.

As one of the last productssold before Blackjack closed its doors, they had neither a sheath nor originalbox for the Squad Leader. Realizing therarity of the knife (and that I really liked it) I bought it anyway. To secure it I’m shipping it in a Blackjackera box that originally came with a Mini-Broadhead. There is no sheath and I don’t have one onhand that will fit.

****NOTE: This knife was purchased new and has been stored properly in a non-smokingenvironment. Condition is MINT withfactory applied grease/oil that has dried on the blade (shows up as brownmottling on the blade and wrapping). Theknife came with the oil so I’ve left it on the blade, but it can be cleaned off if you choose. Seenote above regarding sheath and box. SEEPHOTOS
