Handwritten travel journal begins June of 1910. Tissue-likepaper approx.. 75 pages total. Held together by ribbon and does not include a hard cover.The triptakes place by train and boat and seems to start in Edinburgh. Not clear, butwhen you flip the journal over, he seems to be writing about another trip,including Rangoon, Bombay and Japan
A bit haphazard and difficult to follow but describes thetrip with entries like this one:
“The old village is renowned for its great cleanliness, andpassengers are allowed to walk through the village and inspect a farm wherecheese is manufactured. Edam chees and Pine apple cheese, which is just thesame but shaped in a net with a weight, left in the press four hrs and madefrom night’s and mornings milk (sweet) In six weeks is ready for the market.Painted with analyne dyes to prevent mould for export. The cows occupy the samequarters during the winter House, stable and place to keep hay under the sameroof . Cattle in the stable from Dec. to May. In the living room doors openlike closet doors and the bed is disclosed, a shelf is a cradle at one side forthe baby. The houses nearly all of wood or partly of wood painted a brightgreen.”
