Antique elephant bookends Armor Bronze clad, by Krupka, huge, near mint, 14 lbs:
$355

Awesome bookends in the form of pushing elephants. There are other sets that are variations on this theme, but none this huge and with the same artistic credentials.Bronze-clad, a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was deposited on a plaster form through the process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Armor Bronze (initially, National Metalizing Company), operating in NYC at least as early as the 19-teens. Armor's shield logo is found on the side of the base - along with the name of the sculptor Krupka - and there are original labels on the bottoms as well. Circa 1925.Condition is near mint: no breaks in cladding, no mashed mashed corners. Finish is original and has aged to a rich, dark bronze. Felts and labels on bottoms are original. Both pieces sit flat and stable.7 1/2 inches tall; 9 inches from head to tail; 3 1/2 inches side to side. And way heavy at 7 lbs EACH.Perfect gift for the elephant lover (should be ALL of us) or the safari-goer in your family.US shipping only. USPS priority. I pack with care. 717200
