This is one cool and very interesting item that makes a great display piece, especially for anyone interested in tools and hardware. Samuel Osborn & Co., Ltd., was founded in 1852 in Sheffield, England and was in business until 1945.
Titanic Steel & Iron Co., Lt.d, was acquired in 1871, which is why the name \"Titanic\" appears. The earliest tool steels that incorporated tungsten and Wolfram for hardening were developed by this company and this tin case was used for a milling chuck manufactured by the company, machined of course from hardened steel. I have always thought that this was really intriguing, an attention-getter, especially given the association with The Clyde, the major shipbuilding region in the world in the 1800s and early 1900s, as well as with the now-infamous \"Titanic\" name and story. The bright gold lettering on the deep glossy red paint really stands out! The date range is an estimate and this could have been made sometime between late 1800s and the 1910-29 period, although later is more probable.Dimensions: 8.5\"W x 4.5\"D x 4.25\"H.
This will be well packaged and protected with a lot of bubble wrap, in a larger carton, to ensure no damage in shipment.
I am certainly open to offers and I would like this to go to someone who will enjoy it as part of a collection, as much as I have for quite a number of years.
