Large (1.0 Liter) antique German beer stein made in \"etched\" technique that usually associates with Mettlach. This one, however, was made by Albert Jacob Thewalt - one of the major beer stein manufacturers in early 1900\'s Germany. The stein is marked with A.Thewalt incised manufacturer\'s mark, Musterchutz and 485 model number, Inlaid Lid, Pottery, Tavern Scene with Text. C.1900\'s.
Albert Jac. Thewalt GmbH began producing beer steins circa 1897, and by the start of World War I in 1914 had cataloged some 819 different models. Stein production came to a halt at that point and wouldn’t be resumed again until after World War II.
